I’m so stressed. I just can’t wait for this to be over. I can’t even post about it publicly because there are people in my everyday, in-person life that read my flickr. It gets to be a problem sometimes.

So finally, a photo where you can actually kinda see my awesome hair colour. Heather did such an amazing job with it.

I hate how crooked my spine is. My scoliosis has just been getting worse and worse.

Yesterday I said who the fuck would ever want to live in Yorba Linda or Anaheim Hills?? Because you pay millions of dollars for a home to basically live in Corona! If im gonna spend millions on a home its going to be on the beach and I don’t mean HB I mean Dana Point LOL : ) Well today Anaheim Hills is on Fire….Another reason Anaheim Hills / Yorba Linda sucks!! Boston City Hall

This monumental building was designed by Gerhard M. Kallmann, Noel M. McKinnell, and Edward F. Knowles, three Columbia University professors, who won the nationwide contest in 1962 to design the building. Their design, which was chosen out of 256 entries, revolved around the theme of creating a public and accessible character for the headquarters of the city’s government (columns and eagles were out of fashion at the time)
While considered by many an architectural masterpiece, it is not popular among locals. The mayor has proposed moving City Hall to a new building (most recently in July 2008) elsewhere in the city and selling off the land
The plaza is not a well-loved space. As Bill Wasik wrote in 2006, “It is as if the space were calibrated to render futile any gathering, large or small, attempted anywhere on its arid expanse. All the nearby buildings seem to be facing away, making the plaza’s eleven acres of concrete and brick feel like the world’s largest back alley. … [It is] so devoid of benches, greenery, and other signposts of human hospitality that even on the loveliest fall weekend, when the Common and Esplanade and other public spaces teem with Bostonians at leisure, the plaza stands utterly empty save for the occasional skateboarder.

Archival for BooHoo Blue Monday

Today I have a lunch meet-up, and I’m excited. But this blue-eyed beauty who finds flaws in herself all too easily cuz it smells like teen spirit, must also study while I am gone to differentiate that sometimes a plural in those pesky “change f to v before es, or not” means noun form, or “verbage”. In short this means she’s going to have to really learn to read in context and while her strong suit is phonics and she can read a dictionary oh so much better than I can (”Don’t you know a schwa when you see one?” she once asked me! lol but oh for a brief moment I wanted to slap her for the rude tone of voice, tho the truth is I am not good with those schwa things!) but categorizing grammatical parts is a weakness. Also while I am gone she will work on her World Geo journal (neatness is not her strong suit, either: we joke she will probably become a phD because she has the writing of one!). She will also while I am gone study and take her first Spanish II quiz; tutoring Friday included reading a Scooby Doo book in Spanish, but don’t think of it as a comic. It was apparently a 68-page story that did not quite get completed …….
At 16 this child of mine in order to graduate from high school and go to college must carry 8 courses including PE. I believe I only had 7 including PE. Today to get into her choice of university she must have three years of a foreign language. Her tutor says her Spanish is good; her computer curriculum is confusing in truth and anything but easy. With dance company for PE life is busy and stressful these days and while I as her mom “get it”, I tell her this is modern life. Finally: A Flying Car

When Hollywood makes a futuristic flick, there are usually a few flying cars on the set. Now, reality is finally catching up with fantasy. An honest-to-goodness flying car is in the works and buzz on the vehicle is taking off.

An inventor named Giles Cardozo has high hopes for his Parajet Skycar. The car is ethanol-powered and will have a flying range of 180 miles. Gas 2.0 writes that the car is equipped with a rocket-launched emergency parachute and will look “totally normal” when on the road (not counting the giant fan at the rear of the vehicle). Cardozo plans to fly his brainchild from England to Timbuktu on January 14th to “prove that the vehicle is a fully-functional flying machine.” Now that’s a showman, ladies and gentlemen.

Surprisingly, the Skycar can be legally manned by anybody with a drivers license and a paragliding certification. As far as we can tell, no other documentation is needed. Treehugger features some impressive photos and goes into more detail on the car’s hotly anticipated upcoming journey. Should it succeed, “Skycar will put the gears in motion to bring the flying car to market, targeting 35 to 40 thousand British pounds sticker price.” Assuming it works, that’s a small price to pay to feel like you’re living in the future.

Oprah’s got her dress for it. Obama Girl wants an invitation to it. It could be just the ticket for those needing yet another political fix. It’s Inauguration Day. And boy is it big in Buzz.

What it is.
Officially, Inauguration Day is when the president-elect (that would be Barack Obama) is sworn into office. The event usually occurs on the steps of the Capitol, usually by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, who presides over the oath, which is taken directly from the Constitution: “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.” Serious stuff.

Who gets to go.
All of us! Of course, the Inaugural Ball may be a little bit more exclusive, but anyone who wants to stand along Pennsylvania Avenue to freeze their toes off and witness the parade to the ceremony may do so. Those who want to be on site for the historic occasion are already planning their trips with lookups on “inauguration travel packages,” “inauguration packages,” and “attending the presidential inauguration.”

But don’t expect to get serious deals. Inauguration Day is good for business. In the past, hotel rooms have gone for an eye-popping $350-$400 a night, and local business is generally boosted 30%. (With those kinds of prices, how could it not?) Of course, you can always look for volunteer opportunities, which a few searchers are already scouting out.

Not surprisingly, the most popular searches on the event are coming from D.C., and those locals won’t have to do much more than pay for a seat on the Metro.

Logistics.
In addition to planning his Cabinet, Obama also needs to form a Presidential Inaugural Committee to plan his inauguration. Politico explains that the committee is tasked with doing everything from “raising private money to finance the ceremony and surrounding balls and events, to deciding which military units would march down Pennsylvania Avenue, and, yes, finding all those portable toilets.” You can find a complete guide to the festivities — with more details as they are made available — here.

Record crowds are expected this time around, with some predicting a million or more attendees. Maybe they should order more porta potties.
